Owned By Friends And Run By Family
Friends for almost 20 years, owners Ed Curran and Tom Fario have finally turned a dream into reality. Their concept of an upscale sports bar with a family feel brings light to Avenue North in Francisville which has been struggling to earn a name for itself in Philadelphia. It is not only their dream to create a place where both college students and businessmen can enjoy each other's company over drink, great food and good sports, but to also be the pace setters in a neighborhood that is in the midst of an exciting change.
"Create the place and they will come" is what owner Tom Fario repeatedly reminds his staff. His idea to not only create a successful bar but to build a family while doing so, has helped him in his business ventures in the past. He wants a place where everyone can come and enjoy themselves in a fun and comfortable atmosphere.
It is apparent that Ed and Tom are serious about building that "family feeling" as they have brought Tom's son Michael on board to help them make their dream come true. With a combined bar and restaurant industry experience of almost 45 years, the father / son duo is bound to achieve great things.
As new as Coo's is to the area, they have already been an inspiration to the neighborhood. The owner of the building next door has already begun working on plans to open a restaurant and there are rumors of a night club opening on the same block. It goes without saying that there is much to look forward to on Avenue North in the near future!
Surely, you are asking yourself where the name Coo's comes from. The word "coo" is the sound a dove or pigeon makes, which wasn't as obvious to owner Ed Curran when his daughter, at the time age 13, beat him with that word in a game of Scrabble. The Bucknell Graduate and High School Salutarian was clearly not going to walk away from that argument easily... so it is of course a story best told by either Tom or Ed.
